On 23rd July 2020, 150 chairmen and young leaders of Overseas Students Federation gathered in Shenzhen, China's Greater Bay Area, and opened the fifth phase of Providence Academy, which lasted for four days. The college carried out courses such as open classes, round table classes, closed-door meetings, debates, and company visits. It walked into six representative companies in Shenzhen and shared insights and industry experiences with ten guest mentors, discussing the infinite possibilities of the youth of China and the global.
The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, which has undergone reform and opening up, has bred countless top Chinese companies and is also known as China's innovation capital. The fifth phase of Providence Academy is the first time the college has the opportunity to enter Shenzhen, leading students to enter the most representative Chinese enterprises in Shenzhen. The members of the college were divided into three groups and visited six companies located in Shenzhen, namely Huawei, Tencent, Ping An, China Life, BYD and DJI. The trainees also had close conversations with business leaders to explore the development history and mission vision of these leading Chinese companies.
In addition to walking into the six most representative Shenzhen enterprises, Providence Open Class also welcomed many well-known entrepreneurs and scolars in Shenzhen. Ye Wangchun, chairman of OneConnect and former president of Ping An Bank, introduced to the students the journey of Shenzhen Enterprise Finanace OneConnect form zero to one, and then to the US stock market and continued growth. Wang Xiao, senior vice president of China Fortune Land Development, talked about the layout and development process of China Fortune Land Development's new industrial city, and hoped that more foreign students would join hands with China Fortune Land Development to establish a foothold in the forefront of the industry, cultivate a fertile soil for innovation, and add a driving force to China's economic development. Liu Na, vice president of BGI, unveiled the mystery of the Chinese medical and health giant BGI for the students, and interpreted the company's vision of using genetic technology to benefit mankind.
Xian Ran, chairman of China Rose Valley, Liu Ke, dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Southern University of Science and Technology, academician of the Australian National Academy of Engineering, and Chu Yin, professor of the School of International Relations, analyzed the important strategic position of the Greater Bay Area for the students, and described their development in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The innovation process calls for more Chinese students to pay attention to Shenzhen and China's Greater Bay Area.
The traditional part of Providence debate also made the atmosphere of the college more enthusiastic. Representatives of international students from various countries and regions had a heated and wonderful debate around the two topics of "Is the United States still a good choice to go abroad after the epidemic?" and "Should selfish behavior during the disaster be condemned?"
The fifth session of the academy reached its climax in the team program at the closing dinner and the first basketball game of Providence. Singing and dancing experts and basketball players from various regions brought wonderful performances to the students. The vigorous vitality of "summer wind blowing and rebirth" was written with youthful vitality; it also made the fifth phase of Providence Academy come to an end amidst singing and cheering.
"Summer wind blows and rebirth", in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the innovation capital of the Greater Bay Area of the motherland, 150 students of Providence Academy spent four meaningful days together, and jointly determined to practice the school motto of "Responsibility, Sincerity, Compassion, and Obligation" in the following year, jointly take on the responsibilities of today, and change the future of Chinese students studying abroad. Let everything be hesitant and depressed before the end of the epidemic.
